How do I obtain a food handler card?: We do not issue food handler cards. Food handler training may be obtained by taking any state approved food handler course or viewing the City of Irving's food handler training video. The video is available on the city website in English and in Spanish. If a state approved food handler course is taken, then the training provider will issue you a food handler card. Your name and date should then be listed on a food handler training roster that is posted at your food establishment after you watch the video or you receive your card.

1. Do ice cream pushcarts require a permit?: Yes, pushcarts are required to get an annual mobile food permit sticker. The fee is $100. You may fill out an online health permit application.

2. Do I need a childcare permit to keep children in my home?: Yes, if you keep any children in your home not related to you, whether you charge or not, you are required to obtain a Registered Family Home permit. The fee is $50 per year. You also need to contact the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services at (214) 583-4253 for a permit.

3. Do I need to submit a plan review for a new or remodeled food establishment?: If you are building a new food establishment or remodeling an existing structure and you are going to have or prepare any open foods or beverages, you will need to submit plans for a health review to the Inspections Department. 4. Do Irving restaurants require a certified food manager?: Irving requires that food establishments that prepare food have at least one permanent employee with this certification. Registration fee is $30. You may fill out a food manger permit application online.

6. Who needs to obtain a temporary event permit?: Temporary food permits are required for those providing food or beverages at special events open to the public. It can be issued for a maximum of 14 consecutive days. Vendors selling prepackaged non-potentially hazardous food only are not required to obtain a permit. The fee is $50 plus $5 per day per booth. Those in the city holding a permanent food establishment permit may be required to obtain one, but the fee is waived. You may fill out an online Temporary Food Permit Application.
